A giant Red Oak Tree, with a trunk that is more than 20 feet around, stands in the yard just West of the House. We spent many afternoons watching the shadows created by this tree move across the lot before selecting the perfect location for the house. On summer afternoons the tree casts a shadow over the west side of the house and the Master Bedroom (The double french doors in the picture below open from the master bedroom) keeping it cool. As the afternoon progresses the shadow moves on across the backyard providing shade for barbecuing and other activities. In winter the sun sets in the Southwest and continues to shine on the house and back yard, keeping things a little bit warmer into the evening.
