A Little about "Cherokee"

The town of Cherokee was created in the mid 1800's when the Rail Road was built along the South
side of the Tennessee River. In a small twist of fate the future of Cherokee is also tied to the
railroad industry.    National Alabama Corporation (NAC) recently announced plans to build
a two million square foot state of the art manufacturing facility just East of Town in the Barton
Riverfront Industrial Park. Some expect the local area to double in population in the next five years
as the 1800 NAC employees move to the area along with the associated support and "coat-tail" industries.

Cherokee is currently a small town of 1200 residents located in the Western portion of Colbert County.
An additional 6,000 people live in the surrounding area and others from across the Tennessee River
in Western Lauderdale County and in Eastern Tishomingo County, Mississippi use the local services in
town. Cherokee sits in a broad plane at a place where the Freedom Hills wrap around Big Bear Creek
to meet the Tennessee River. This results in a wealth of recreation opportunities with more than 100,000
acres of public hunting areas within 30 minutes drive and 6 major lake systems (See the "Lake" and
"hunting" buttons below).
